Overview

Start to investigate your target users, and build your design concept in the running project doc.

When you turn in this homework you will be assessed on these competencies: Inclusive Person Centered Design. Design/Disability Justice.

Assignment Details

Key: pink boxes happen in Canvas, blue boxes in your project repo, green boxes on your project’s public site.

Key: pink is Canvas, blue is your project repo, green is your project public site.

Flowchart of the Milestone 1 tasks. A text version follows the image.

Text version of this diagram
  • Recruit and consent interviewees, using the consent form from Milestone 0 (repo), then submit the signed consent forms in Milestone 1 Consent Forms (Canvas).
  • Conduct 2-4 interviews, with notes in LOG.md (repo). Then summarize the interviews in public/user-need.html (public site), which leads to tagging your repo and submitting to Canvas (Canvas).
  • From the same interviews, do the AEIOU analysis in public/aeiou.html (public site), then the storyboard and justice principles in public/design-concept.html (public site), which leads to tagging your repo and submitting to Canvas.
  • Log contributions in LOG.md#build (repo), which also leads to tagging your repo and submitting to Canvas.

Before you start

Your project goals (index.html#overview), first-person research paragraphs, and draft consent form should already be on your project site from Milestone 0.

Milestone 1 requires you to edit the following:

User Need Assessment

Your user need assessment will take place in stages

  • Recruit and consent interviewees, using the consent form you drafted for Milestone 0. Share the signed consent forms with us as part of Milestone 1 Consent Forms
  • In pairs, interview 2-4 stakeholders. Ever team member should interview at least one stakeholder. One person should take notes during each interview, the other should lead the conversation (fine for both of you to ask questions, though)
  • As a team, discuss the interviews

Document User Needs Assessment Process

LOG.md

  • Update the user engagement log with a subsection for each client you spoke with. This should include your notes on each interview

  • user-need.html#interviews-heading Include a summary of the participants you interviewed, anonymized but detailed, including:

    • What is their role, and why is it relevant to the project
    • What information, if any, do you have about their demographics
    • Any other important background about them

You will discuss what you learned about your project next in the AEIOU Analysis.

AEIOU Analysis (aeiou.html)

Based on first person accounts and interviews, answer the AEIOU questions and reflect on how they might influence your design concept. You should have a paragraph about each of the five items in the acronym. Check aeiou.html for more details.

Storyboard (design-concept.html)

Pick 3 tasks based on the activities in your AEIOU analysis and storyboard how an app could support them. Include this on the “Design Concept” page of your project website.

Pick 2 disability justice principles. Define them and explain how your design concept either meets or fails to meet them

Contributions

*Log team contributions in LOG.md.

Submitting for grading

At the deadline,

  1. tag your repo (git tag milestone-1 && git push origin milestone-1)
  2. submit the tagged link to your README in Canvas (e.g. .../-/blob/milestone-1/README.md)

Completeness

Checklist (is your assignment complete)

  • user-need.html#interviews-heading summarizes your interviewee demographics (anonymized)
  • The user engagement log in LOG.md has notes for each interview (anonymized). You interviewed 2-4 stakeholders
  • aeiou.html has a paragraph for each of the five AEIOU items
  • design-concept.html has storyboards for 3 tasks, and two disability justice principles
  • LOG.md#build has an entry from every team member
  • Signed consent forms were submitted in Milestone 1 Consent Forms
