CSE 331: Final Exam
Logistics
The final exam will be held on the last day of the course, at the normal lecture time and location. That is August 22nd from 10:50am to 11:50am in Dempsy 102 (DEM 102).
If you have a conflict that leaves you unable to attend the exam in-person, we asked that you contact the course staff at the beginning of the quarter. If an unexpected emergency situation arises that will cause you to miss the exam, you must contact the course staff as soon as possible. If you are sick on the day of the exam, do not come, but, again, you must contact us as soon as possible. Failing to communicate with us about this could cause a delay in your final grade being issued.
The exam will be on-paper, so students should bring writing utensils.
Students must bring their UW ID and have it ready to be checked during the exam.
The exam will be closed notes. Math definitions (e.g. \(\textsf{sum}\) or \(\textsf{prefix}\)) and properties/lemmas (e.g. List Identity or \(L = \textsf{rev}(\textsf{rev}(L))\)) that you may need on the exam will be provided, but mathematical types that we've used throughout the quarter (e.g. \(\textsf{list}\), \(\mathbb{N}\), etc.) may not be provided.
The exam duration will be approximately 55 minutes, but you are expected to be in the exam room for the full hour. If you finish your exam within the first 30 minutes, you will be permitted to leave the lecture room early, otherwise we'll ask you to stay seated.
Content and Resources
The exam will be multiple choice and short answer.
Content from all lectures, sections, and assignments (HW1-8) will be fair game on the exam --excluding optional and extra lecture materials. In other words, for a list of topics that may appear, see the Topics page of the course website :).
If you understood how to solve all the homework problems, you should already be well-prepared for the exam. Reviewing your homework feedback and practicing section problems are good tools to make sure you have a comprehensive understanding of the content.
Below are additional practice materials (approximately sorted by usefulness):
- 25 Summer practice exam (solutions)
- Coming soon: Section 10 (8/21) Materials
- 24 Winter practice exam (solutions)
- 24 Winter final exam (solutions)
Note: in 2024 Winter the style of exam was very similar to what you will see this quarter, however there are some differences in which topics were covered and requirements for students. You should not take an emphasis on a particular topic in the 24WI exams as an indication that the 25SU exam will similarly emphasize that topic.
Below are additional practice materials that are from a different style of exam:
- 25 Spring practice exam (solutions)
- 23 Spring exam (solutions)
- 23 Spring exam solution walkthrough videos
Note: these exams are included here for students who want additional practice with core course content, but they do not match the style of exam for 25SU. Each do have a set of short answer and multiple questions, however, and those are fairly similar to questions you may see in the 25SU exam.
If you have any questions about any questions or solutions in the practice materials, please ask on Ed and Office Hours! In particular, as the 24WI and 23SP requirements were slightly different, "correct" answers may differ slightly.
In general, utilize Ed and Office Hours in your study plan. The staff would be more than happy to review a concept with you or go over prior homework and section or review problems.
