Hi y’all! I’m James, a teaching professor in the Allen School. I teach introductory courses (like CSE 160 and 121), the Allen School computing ethics seminar (CSE 480), and courses on AI, including a new introductory AI literacy course next quarter. I’m excited to be back for my second time teaching CSE 160!
In my free time, I love to travel (recent highlights include Croatia, Guatemala, and Ireland), cook (check out some of my recent food adventures), and play Minecraft (my current survival world is nearly 4 years old). Stop by my office to say hi sometime!
Getting Help
Encountering challenges is a fundamental learning experience, so having questions or getting stuck is entirely expected. Likewise, figuring out how to get your questions answered and get yourself unstuck is part of the learning process. James and the course staff are here to support you through that process!
Office Hours
Office hours are a great first stop when you feel stuck or have a question. You can attend any course office hours, whether held by James or any TA. The weekly schedule provides the date, time and location for each office hours slot.
Most office hours take place in the Allen Center (CSE) building. You can access the CSE breakout spaces and James’ office via the Allen Center atrium, which is a big open space that stretches from the ground floor to the glass ceiling of the building. (If you don’t see this big atrium, you’re likely in the ECE building! Follow the signs to the Allen School.) Take the stairs or elevator from the atrium to get to the right floor. James’ office, CSE 456, is on the fourth floor in a hallway past the restrooms.
