Midterm 1 Grades, Solutions and Rubric Posted. Course grades in canvas now.

We have published the grades for Midterm 1 in canvas. We have also moved the scores for your graded assignments into canvas so you can see an estimate of your final percentage in the course. note We are in the process of uploading your late days used and applying any late penalties. If you have run out of late days it is possible your scores may go down as we apply these penalties.

Please review your grades to ensure they have been entered in correctly as we will be using Canvas as the final grade book to create your GPAs. If you see any issues with how your grades have been entered into Canvas please fill out the following form to let us know: Canvas Grade Issue Form

Please review the midterm solutions and rubric: Midterm 1 Solutions & Rubric

If you feel you have been incorrectly graded or have questions about your midterm grade please fill out the midterm re-grade request form: Midterm 1 Re-Grade Form

Partners and Post-CSE373 Pathways Session

  1. If you are looking for a partner, please submit your contact info here. We’ll follow up with you with more details about match-making after people have filled this form out.

  2. Copied from this Piazza post:

The course staff will be putting together an event next week to talk about how you can leverage your experience from this class to get a job or internship, participate in research, or do a bunch of other cool stuff! We’re going to host a Zoom session where we’ll have a presentation about getting a job/internship from the instructors and then some of the TAs will talk about some of the cool stuff they have done after taking this class and we will open it up for a Q&A session where you can ask any questions you have. Students have really enjoyed this when we’ve done it in past quarters, so if it’s something that might interest you then you should definitely come!

We’re trying to schedule a date right now and we’ve put together a form with some potential times. Please fill this out by EOD Friday if you’re interested in coming and have a preference on when we hold it. We will post more information next week about which time we choose but we thought we would give everyone an opportunity to vote on good times so that we can pick a time that works for the most students! We will also be recording this session if you can’t make it live.

Project 1 released!

P1: Deques has been released! It is due Wednesday, Apr 15 at 11:59PM.

This assignment includes three major components: ArrayDeque, which gives you practice with debugging somebody else’s (badly written) code, LinkedDeque, where you’ll have a chance to implement the Deque ADT using a doubly-linked list, and a smaller portion where run some experiments on your data structures and complete a brief writeup.

Remember that you can work with a partner for this project and any of the future projects, if you wish. There are instructions in the spec for Deques regarding partner logistics including details about submitting and working together.

Missing Permissions Form

We’ve been getting a lot of emails about missing permissions since people are joining the class after we published the Gradescope/Project 0 code, but it was a little bit too much to track via email (which is a mistake on our part). If you’re still missing permissions fill out this form instead of emailing the staff: https://forms.gle/jskGA41L6Zz5s9gJ6. If you’ve already emailed us, we should have gotten back to you with the permissions granted, but please let us know via form if you find something else is missing.

Thank you a bunch for all this patience.

Sorry, no add codes for this course

We have been getting a large number of emails asking for add codes to this course. This happens every quarter, and I know many of you have been waiting multiple quarters for a spot. Unfortunately as this is a non-majors course the computer science department has to strictly scope the number of students so there are no add codes. We are working with the department to open up as many spots as we can (we did manage to get 30 extra spots last week which I know filled quickly). There is a possibility the department will open more spots. Also, there is typically a lot of movement in the first two weeks of the course so if you are still trying to get in please keep an eye on UW notify and there is a good chance you could get lucky.

If you are simply interested in auditing the course please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/jskGA41L6Zz5s9gJ6 and we will do our best to make materials as available as we can.

Welcome and Google forms! 👋

Hello all!

The CSE 373 staff are excited to be working with you all next quarter, even as we navigate this new fully-online teaching territory. Here are some things we recommend you do when you have some time:

  1. Fill out our anonymous start-of-the-quarter forms:

Filling these out will help us figure out how to best support all of you, so please do so.

  2. Check out the website, located here: https://courses.cs.washington.edu/courses/cse373/20sp/ – we’ll be posting mostly everything here: lecture slides, syllabus, project instructions, etc. Currently the syllabus and the staff page are up, so feel free to check those out.
  3. Check out Canvas and make sure you know how to access Zoom lectures.

That’s it for now, but thanks in advance for your patience this quarter. We’re going to try to make the best of these new circumstances and give y’all a positive learning experience this quarter :).
