CSE 592: Applications of Artificial Intelligence

Synopsis: Introduction to the use of artificial intelligence tools and techniques in industrial and company settings. Topics include: foundations (search, knowledge representation, inference, learning) and applications (datamining, decision support systems, control of complex embedded systems such as autonomous spacecraft)

Prerequisite: CSE majors only. Considerable computer science sophistication expected, but no prior knowledge of AI is necessary.

Text: Primary readings will be from a packet of recent papers to be handed out in class. However the excellent text, by Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig, P., "Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach" Prentice Hall, 1995. is highly recommended, especially for those with no prior experience in AI. One can find it at Amazon Books.

Problem Sets & Project: There will be three problem sets and a project; programming work will use the Java language. The project involves building a information integration system.
