Textbook

During the first few weeks of the quarter, we'll be using the text "Introduction to Algorithms" by Kleinberg and Tardos. This is an unpublished version, and we were permitted to use it on the condition that we provide feedback. You are therefore urged to tell us any comments or suggestions you might have about the book, from typos to content selection.

This is an excellent chance for you to make a difference in the education of future computer science students, so use it! As an added incentive, a small amount of extra credit will be given as reward for your feedback.

You can get the book from the communications building copy room, where it is sold as "CSE 521 Course Pak" for $22.25.

Homework Assignments

Assignments will be handed out weekly, and will be due in class Friday. The assignemnts will also be posted below, so you can print them out. Your solutions can be handwritten or printed; if the former, please try to keep your handwriting as legible as possible.

Class Mailing List

The mailing list (cse521@cs.washington.edu) is used to communicate important information that is relevant to all the students. Make sure that you are registered to it, by sending email to
majordomo@cs.wahsintgon.edu with the single line "subscribe cse521@cs" as the message body (not the subject).
After sending the initial request, you will receive two messages from the server. One of them will tell you to send a second email to majordomo, specifying an authorization code.

The mailing list is also a very useful tool for collaboration and interaction between students. You are encouraged to post questions, thoughts, and ideas, that you believe would interest your fellow students.

Messages to the mailing list are stored in a hypermail archive.
