  • Hi there! 🙋‍♂️ My name is Hunter! I’ve lived in Seattle for almost my whole life after a brief stint in Alaska, where I was born, and a couple of years in Minnesota. I did my undergrad and masters here at UW in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering.
Funnily enough, I had absolutely no idea what computer science was when I started at UW. I took CSE 142 on a whim and enjoyed it enough to continue on to CSE 143, but not enough to commit to it as a field of study. It wasn’t until I became a teaching assistant for the 14x series did I really find my passion for computer science: teaching computer science. Since then, I’ve shaped my college and post-college career around teaching computer science. Since graduating with my masters, I’ve worked here at the Allen School as a Teaching Professor.
Outside of school and work, I (used to) spend most of time hanging out with friends: just enjoying quality time or going out and exploring new restaurants, coffee shops, or bars. Now, during the inside-times, I’ve tried to make a routine with my available free time. I’ve gotten into reading and cooking more regularly, I started practicing yoga, and I got back into practicing Spanish, all while drinking probably an unhealthy amount of coffee.

  • Hi y'all!! I'm Karen and I am a second year majoring in Computer Engineering. I was born and raised here in Redmond and my favorite parts of the PNW are the coffee and the boba. Before, back to when being on-campus was a thing, I'd be at Parnassus or exploring new places on the Ave with my friends. Currently, I am trying to read more, improve my cooking and coffee-making skills, and work on more crafting and embroidery projects - specifically actually finishing a piece 😅.
CSE 163 was my first CSE class here at the UW and I had an amazing experience; it's what helped push me to apply to CompE, and although it can be tough at times, it was definitely the right choice for me.
Come by to chat about anything above or anything else - I'm sure we have at least something in common 😊

  • I was born and raised in the Greater Seattle area so it only seemed fitting that I pursue my undergrad at UW! Originally, I was pursuing computer science, but after some soul searching, I realized what I'm really passionate about is computing education! After that, everything seemed to fall into place, so now I am working towards a double-degree in Informatics and Education, Communities, and Organizations (ECO). I also had incredible TAs in 14x, 163, and 373 that encouraged me to become a TA, so here I am — and I'm loving every minute.
163 was a class that really changed the game for me because turned the corner from foundational and abstract to more concrete, and I think the applications of what we learn are so cool. It's a deep dive, but it's also so much fun! If you ever want to chat about any of my — or our :o — interests, just let me know! Ask me about computing ed, teaching, social justice, music, The Office, or my (physically, mentally, and financially) unhealthy obsession with cooking and coffee.

  • Hey everyone! My name is Ken, and I’m a senior studying Computer Science in the BS/MS program. I originally wanted to study Aerospace Engineering, but after my freshman year I ended up taking CSE 142 on a whim and loving it. After I completed the intro series, I decided to pursue CSE as a career and applied to become a TA. I spent 3 quarters TAing 143, 1 quarter on 373, and 3 quarters on 163, and I’m still loving teaching. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, socializing with friends, and cooking. Looking forward to a great quarter!

  • Heyo, my name is Madrona! I consider Seattle and London to be my two hometowns as I was born and briefly lived in the latter but have grown up in the former. As a Seattleite I absolutely love anything outdoors... camping and white water rafting are some of my favorite things to do. To reset, I love going up into the mountains and laying under the stars. I also consider myself a poet and a potter (in two senses) and have really gotten into working with clay over quarantine.
I am a sophomore computer science major who is looking to minor in data science, partly because of how much I love this class! I took this class my freshman year and didn't expect to TA so early in my college career, but the excellent professing of Hunter and the interesting material in this course pulled me in, so here I am 3 quarters later! Feel free to pop by my office hours to ask any questions or to just chat!!

  • Hello!! My name is Jasmine! I'm currently a junior studying Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (aka MCD Biology for short) and I'm very interested in working at the intersection of biology and technology. As I am a non-computational major, I wanted become a TA to encourage students from all majors to feel comfortable exploring computer science and open your eyes to how programming can be applied to any field.
Outside of school, I enjoy hiking to explore the nature Washington has to offer and I’ve dabbled a bit in photography. However, because of the cold and rainy weather forcing us to stay indoors, I’ve recently picked up crocheting! If you have any questions or wanna chat, feel free to stop by my office hours or send me a message!!

  • Hi all! I'm Alex and super excited to be a TA for this class! I'm a sophomore studying Electrical Engineering and (hopefully) minoring in Statistics. I love data analysis and this class was a lot of fun for me, so I'm hoping to be able to pass that on as much as I can.
In my spare time, I would usually be cooking, playing chess and Catan, or practicing Jiu-Jitsu (except for covid, oh well), and I love spending time with friends.
I'm not a CS major, but I love the material and I think it's a valuable skill and a lot of fun to teach and to learn. I look forward to meeting everyone!

  • Hi everyone! :) My name is Sylvia! I am a senior studying Computer Science at UW. I never thought that I would end up studying CS until I took CSE 14X. Hunter was actually one of the first few professors who inspired me to pursue a CS degree when I took CSE 143 with him. I want to inspire my peers in the same way, helping them explore their interests in programming. I have taught CSE 333 twice, and this will be my first time teaching CSE 163! I am super excited to work with you all!
During my free time, I enjoy writing poems, reading books, and doing meditation in nature. I am also a very spiritual person. Although I am not religious, I love reading philosophy about higher dimensions and how they are connected with our 3-dimensional world (feel free to ask me anything about these)! I love to play video games and I have been mostly sticking to mobile games ☺️

  • Hello! My name is Wen Qiu and I am currently a senior studying Computer Science at UW. I came from Guangzhou, China and after 5 years being in the U.S. I still miss the delicious dimsum back home. This is my fourth quarter TAing for 163 and it has been a blast so far, and I am very excited to work with you all to get the most out of this class!
I had internship experience in UX design and software engineering, so feel free to reach out if you want to learn about what it is like working in the industry and how to prep for interviews. In my free time, I enjoy playing video games and doing digital sketches. I recently pick up knitting as a new hobby that allows me to stay away from screens (not really, because I just watch Netflix at the same time), and I appreciate any simple knitting project suggestions!

  • Hello! I'm Dylan and I'm a third-year Electrical Engineering student. I know that makes you think "circuits and robots", but my focus is actually in signal processing and data science! This means I spend most of my time coding rather than playing with wires. I want to use my knowledge of data science to aid wildlife conservation efforts, and I have particular interests in protecting snow leopards, rhinos, and manta rays.
I have lived in Kirkland all my life (20 min. drive from the UW), and like most natives I love to spend time outdoors biking, hiking, and camping. I also am an avid photographer (I am a TA for CSE 131 if you're interested in photography!) and beginning to learn videography.
My last major interest has to be mixed martial arts. I am currently a member of the UW Boxing team, but I love learning Kickboxing, wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, and so on. If any of you are martial artists or follow martial arts such as the UFC then I would always be happy to talk about it!

  • Hello all, my name is Ece! I am from Turkey and I am a junior double majoring in Informatics and Chemistry. CSE 163 was one of my favorite courses at UW, partly because Hunter is an amazing professor and also because we get to explore so many fascinating Data Science tools and concepts! I am very excited to be a TA again for this course and meet everyone in the upcoming weeks! I would like to say I am sorry in advance if my cat, Ebru, ever interrupts a Zoom meeting, I am still afraid of her scratching or hating me and can’t really pick her up. In my free time, I love playing basketball, walking outside, baking, and watching movies. Come hang out during my office hours if you need any help with course materials, wanna meet notorious Ebru, or have any movie recommendations! 😊

  • Ciao 🐾! Apollo here, a sophomore who just started Computer Engineering. I mainly play around with mobile dev stuff but sometimes compilers as well. I’ve been tutoring since high school, and I’m glad to be one of your TAs for CSE 163 this quarter.
I don't really play games, but I do enjoy Minecraft. Especially the Education Edition (that comes for free with your UW email), you can automate the boring parts of this block game using Python!
Oh, and if you would like to take a selfie with Tim Cook (the CEO of Apple Inc.), come to my office hours to learn how.
