Important!

All communication is to be respectful—in lectures, labs, office hours, e-mails, the class listserv, and the bulletin board—whether in person or electronic. For more guidance, read about Netiquette.

Collect It

Some of your assignments will be turned in via Collect It, a Catalyst tool. See menu bar for Collect It links. Learn more about Collect It.

E-mail

We will be using Umail to reduce spam for the instructor and TAs. Any e-mail address posted on Web sites can be  harvested by spam-bots.

You can communicate with the instructor, the TAs, and the class listserv (mailing list) using the Umail account. You may send an anonymous e-mail by deleting your name and e-mail address from the Umail. NOTE: If you send an anonymous message, don't expect a personal response because we won't know who you are!

When you have a question about your grade or a course policy, send a Umail to the TA or instructor. You will hear back from us within 24 hours from Monday through Friday. Do not expect an immediate reply on the weekends.

See menu bar for Umail link.

Class E-mail List (Mailman)

All enrolled students are automatically subscribed to our course e-mailing list. Mailman is the software that manages the e-mail list; see this page for more information about using Mailman.

All e-mail list announcements are sent to your UW NetID address. If you forward your UW e-mail to another e-mail address, make sure your e-mail forwarding is up to date and pointing to your favorite e-mail address.

Be sure to read these e-mail announcements. You are responsible for the content. If you think you missed an announcement, check the listServ archives (see menu for link) or the FIT100 Home page for previous announcements.

Send your questions to the class e-mailing list via UMail. Check the box next to "Class Mailing List." If you're shy, delete your name and email from the Umail in order to send your message anonymously. However, if you send a message anonymously, don't expect a personal response; we won't know who you are!

See menu for link to listServ archives and link to UMail.

GoPost (discussion board)

We rely heavily on the discussion boards for technical support, content discussion, and monitoring participation. Discussions outside of class take place via GoPost. Students can start new conversations in related discussion threads.

If you have questions, the answer may already be posted on the class GoPost. Take some time to see what others have posted. If you don't see the answer to your question, post a message in the appropriate discussion thread or start a new one. Be sure to include the project, lecture, or lab in the subject line. Getting a quick answer means making your question easy to find.

We will not respond to posts until 24 hours has passed to allow students the opportunity to respond to each other first. Expect more delay on weekends. We will not respond to every post due to the volume of posts on the board. We will make corrections where necessary and provide answers to outstanding questions.

If you find a problem with connecting to the course materials, post it in the Broken Links and Other Connection Problems area. we will check that discussion area more frequently and will post reports of fixes and updates there.

These kinds of participation count towards your Participation score.

Postings about weekly discussion topic count toward your Postings score.

See the menu for the link to GoPost.
