I am currently a senior graduate student in the ICTD Lab working with Prof. Kurtis Heimerl, and will be joining Space-X’s Starlink team in the fall. My research focuses on Community Cellular Networking with an emphasis on the challenges of implementing and sustaining Community Cellular networks in the 4G, 5G, and nextG era. I also have some ongoing work in cellular network security and a general interest in mobile ad-hoc and mesh networking too. Outside of research, I’m really excited about CS-education, and how people understand computer networks around them and the broader Internet.

Hello, I’m Emmanuel Azuh Mensah, a second year PhD student in the ICTD Lab with research interests at the intersection of systems ML and international development. I’m advised by Kurtis Heimerl and Shwetak Patel on applications of machine learning in developing countries. I’m currently working on a low resource wildlife detection project in Eastern Washington and collaborating with Tim Dettmers on low resource ML training.

In my spare time, I enjoy informative TV shows, biking, kayaking, cooking, dabbling in philosophy and nature photography as well as dancing!
