CSE 590d Spring 2004
Computer-Based Learning Environments
Meeting location: Sieg 322
Meeting time: Wed. 1:30-2:20
Topic:
This quarter the seminar addresses two issues:
(a) methods for the analysis of online learning data from students,
and (b) design and implementation of programs either for performing
such analysis or for mediating student learning directly.
Special attention will be given in some of the meetings to the INFACT
system under development by some of the seminar participants.
- April 7. Presentation by Tara Madyastha on teaching data
structures at U.C. Santa Cruz using online peer explanation.
- April 14. Discussion of the paper,
An Overview
of Current Research on Automated Essay Grading
by Valenti, Neri, and Cucchiarelli.
Each participant should choose one of the ten methods covered in the
paper, report to cse590d@cs which one s/he
is covering, and read the primary reference on that method, in order
to be able to represent that method in the discussion.
Not all of the papers are easily accessible from the web, but some of
them are and those have been gathered here for your convenience:
- April 22. Presentation by Bill Winn on the use of
student activity log files to complement the assessment of
student learning from textual postings and sketches.
- April 28. (tentative). Overview of the Gnomes platform
for educational assessment agents.
