After you are officially registered for the course, you should be automatically enrolled in our Ed board. (TBD: Board still being set up.)
Ed is the right place to ask most questions about the course or materials. We will also use Ed to send everyone an email when there is an announcement, so you should at least check your email regularly. We may use Ed to announce assignments or make changes or fixes to assignments.
To reach the course staff only, feel free to make a private post instead of a public post. If you prefer email or would like to talk to one of us directly about a sensitive matter, the home page contains all of our email addresses.
The deliverables page gives the grade breakdown for each assigmment. Summarizing by the phases of project development, the grades are distributed as:
Type | Weight |
---|---|
Design Document | 25% |

Since groups depend on each other for their deliverables, we do not have a set late policy. By default, everything should be submitted on time.
Life happens—we understand that sometimes unexpected things can come up and we intend to be flexible for extenuating circumstances. If you are unable to submit something on time due to these circumstances, please let the course staff know as soon as possible. The sooner we know about it, the easier it will be for us to provide accommodations.
We welcome students of all backgrounds. The computer science and computer engineering industries have not traditionally been very diverse due to a lack of sufficient past efforts towards it. You should expect and demand to be treated by your classmates and the course staff with respect.
If any incident occurs that challenges this commitment, you can:
We understand that students may have different backgrounds and circumstances that can affect their experience in the course. If you are facing any challenges, please don't hesitate to contact the instructors privately. The sooner we know about a problem, the easier it will be to resolve. Extenuating circumstances might include issues related to balancing school and work, family responsibilities, religious observances, military duties, unexpected travel, or anything else beyond your control that could affect your performance in the class.
The University of Washington acknowledges the Coast Salish peoples of this land, the land which touches the shared waters of all tribes and bands within the Suquamish, Tulalip and Muckleshoot nations.
If you have already established accommodations with Disability Resources for Students (DRS), please activate your accommodations via myDRS so we can discuss how they will be implemented in this course. If you have a temporary health condition or permanent disability that requires accommodations, contact DRS directly to set up an Access Plan.
Washington state law requires that UW develop a policy for accommodation of student absences or significant hardship due to reasons of faith or conscience, or for organized religious activities. The UW’s policy, including more information about how to request an accommodation, is available at Religious Accommodations Policy. Accommodations must be requested within the first two weeks of this course using the Religious Accommodations Request form.
We know that accommodations that are requested through the university can take time to be approved, with processing times sometimes extending beyond the current quarter. You should feel free to contact us at any time to see if we can help directly, even if the university has yet to review your request officially.
