June 10th:got the game into a basic graphical output instead of just text. working really hard to enlarge the gaming enviroment and get the graphics a little better.
June 8th:we have given up trying to make P2P communication work. even if we were able to do it, it would have been a hack. we need the windowsCE blutooth API to be developed. decided to concentrate more on creating a larger game world with more to do.
June 6th:started working with eclipse SWT graphic package for java.
June 2nd:Integrated placelab into our game. it now works with placelab but is not graphical.
May 30th:got our game running on the new ipaq. create our own test program that uses placelab.
May 28th:recieved new ipaq with windows 2003 installed. got placelab samples running.
May 25th:found a program called herald that enables bluetooth communication serially on any device that can run java and javacomm. found out that we need to get windows 2003 for placelab to run. got herald compiled and running on a wondows pc.
May 23th:researched more on bluetooth for ipaq. it looks like there is no java support for bluetooth for the ipaq.
May 18th:Still waiting to hear from PlaceLab expert which Alan is consulting with about Java error. Researched more on how to set up Bluetooth protocol using Java on windows CE without much success.
One possible alternative is to use Visual Basics to handle bluetooth.
May 16th:worked on update #2, came to school on sunday and messed around with iPaq
May 15th:Worked to improve game. Added monsters that are automatically triggered via a timer. Simplified interaction with placelab. Now all the placelab package has to do is provide the current x y coordinate relative to some central location and the new Events.java will take care of what happens when user walks over that location.
May 13th: Tried to port placelab stuff onto the pocketPC, ran into problem with java class path. Sent error report to Alan, stopped working after that.
May 13th: Recieved the usb bluetooth thingie for PC
May 10th: flashed new Rom and firmware on Placelab. Now wifi finally works
May 3rd: edited presentation1 so it looks nicer for tomorrow's presentation
May 2nd: continued work of previous entry, core code is now functional on a barebone level
Apri 30th: began working on core game code
laid out the fundamental states we wish to exchange, and some simple ways to display those states on the computer
April 27th: Started on user interface for location creator(scavanger hunt), right now it is just a way to write a textfile that contains a vector pair (location ID, action)
April 27th: downloaded placelab
April 26th: wrote update1
April 26th: wrote presentation1
April 24th: messed around with java API for bluetooth
downloaded javax.comm and unsuccessfully tried to get Wifi connection working
April 23th: Read about Bluetooth programming
searched around for tutorials on reasonable ways to set up bluetooth on two iPaqs to detect eachother
began working on interface for iPaq to Computer exchange
April 20th: obtained iPaq
April 19th: recieved personal server
April 19th: switched from PS to iPaq to solve problem of having to attach an external user interface(like a phone) on personal server.
Our reasoning is that PS + phone ~= iPaq
April 14th: made the webpage with the proposal on it
