• Keys are 64-bit numbers

  • Every 8th bit is unused
    • Used for parity

• Example:

  • Key: K = 133457799BBCDFF116
  • Cleartext: M = 0123456789ABCDEF16
  • Ciphertext: C = 85E813540F0AB40516
  • How do we convert M to C?
