Projects are a very large component of 454. In the past we've had students build a complete crawler from scratch. One year teams built a specialized webcam-crawler & search engine. Last year, the focus was on information extraction.

This time we offer a choice. More on this shortly.

Problem Component 1:

In order to get everyone up to speed and going on their projects, we will start off with a shared initial component --- using supervised machine learning (Naive Bayes) to build a document classifier. Details are here. This component is due 10/13/09 before class.

Proposals for the remainder of your project are due at the same time. Please do your best to include all the information requested.

Each group will have a sequence of 1-1 meetings with Dan to discuss and debug project proposals. Check the schedule for the first set of meetings, the second set of meetings, and the third set of meetings.
