  • karlin [at] cs.washington.edu
  • Office Hours: Mondays, 8:00-9:00pm PST

  • Welcome to CSE 312! I'm super excited to be teaching you all this quarter. I've been a professor at UW for a very long time, longer than I like to admit... My research is in algorithms and algorithmic game theory, with a focus on probabilistic and online algorithms. I love probability! Outside of work and my beloved family, I'm obsessed with tennis and music.
  • Aleks Jovcic (He/Him) (Head TA)
  • ajovcic [at] cs.washington.edu

  • Office Hours: Mondays, 6:00-7:00pm PST, Tuesdays, 9:00-10:00pm PST

  • Hi everyone! My name is Aleks and I'm so excited to be CSE 312's head TA this quarter! I'm a junior studying Computer Science. Besides teaching, I love music, filmmaking and movies, and playing (and designing) TTRPG's. Right now is a difficult time for a lot of us, so if you need any help, 312 or otherwise, don't hesistate to reach out!
  • Pemi Nguyen (He/Him) (TA, Content Development Coordinator)
  • peming [at] cs.washington.edu
  • Tuesday Workshops
  • Office Hours: Thursdays, 5:00-6:00pm PST

  • Hi my name is Pemi. Technically I'm a senior but I actually transferred to UW last fall from California, so I only have 2 years in the CSE department. I've been very active in student advocacy as a TA and as a member of the Student Advisory Council. I'm currently an ally member of Minorities in Tech (MiT), a CSE RSO dedicated to supporting historically underrepresented or underserved students in the tech industry. Student advocacy is something that is the cornerstone of my heart, so if you have any problems related to academics or student life, if I can't help you, I can reach out to those I know so that you can receive the best amount of support. I'm also interested in Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing. I've been doing research in Deep Learning research in the UbiComp lab, but this quarter I'm switching to the NLP lab by Professor Yejin Choi researching social biases and hate speech detection. Feel free to ask me anything ML-related. Also, if you want to apply to be a TA or research, I can definitely give you tons of advice. I also love traveling (having been to 12+ countries but my plans this year were cancelled because of COVID-19), learning new languages and binge-watching comedy shows.

A few of my favorite things to do (aside from computing probability mass functions, obviously), are watching movies, rock climbing, and dunking basketballs (yea, I'm kinda weird). I look forward tremendously to getting to know all of you throughout this quarter!
