About Me
I am a Vietnamese first generation college student at the University of Washington in Seattle going into my third year studying computer science. At the university, I am involved with the STARS engineering program as a member of cohort V where I have cultivated a strong sense of belonging & support within this big university and built a strong foundation and understanding of my own learning process. I am also a Teaching Assistant for CSE 190Z where I hope to give back to the STARS community by helping the younger cohort in their endeavors in computer science & engineering.
Loni's Tips to succeed in CSE
- Make mistakes and learn from them! Pre-CSE is the time to make mistakes so that when you go into 142/143, you are aware of the mistakes you've made in the past and won't make them again
- Learn to pay attention to detail in the seemingly vague specs! In 142/143, homework assignments are written in a similar format to the specs you'll receive in pre-CSE, most of the time in even less detail. If you've come up with a strategy to read these specs and grab all the details, you'll be golden for 142/143
- When doing problems, handwrite your code! CSE exams are not on computers. They'll be on paper so it's important to problem solve while handwriting your solutions. If you want another incentive to practicing handwriting your code. Technical interviews typically ask you to write out your code on a whiteboard so if you're already accustomed to that, that's one less thing to stress out about during an interview!
- Practice, practice, practice! I know you're probably tired of hearing this phrase, but it really does help you in every aspect. You'll have a fuller understanding of concepts and be able to solve problems faster for exams. Highly recommend Practice-it for problems and of course handwriting your solutions first
