About Kwing
I am a STARs Cohort IV and Computer Science student going into my senior year. I was born in Hong Kong, but have lived in Bellevue, Washington for practically all my life. Other than English, I can also speak Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese (and know some French, if you count high school foreign language). This will be my second year being a teacher's assistant for CSE 190Z. If you have any other questions about me, CSE 190Z or computer science in general, feel free to ask! I am looking forward to meeting and helping everyone learn computer science!
Tips for CSE
- Make good habits early! Things like leaving enough time to finish before due dates, proper commenting and styling, code planning and organization, thorough reading of specifications (and maybe even annotating, a lot of important details will be hiding), .. and many more! .. will save you a ton of stress down the line.
- Remember to make use of resources! The TA's and Bricker are here to help you. If you have tried and are struggling with a topic or a part in a homework, come ask us for help! During the intro CS courses, besides the TA's and professor for the class, you can also make use of the IPL. When studying for exams, there is Practice-It, past exams and your colleagues that can help you out.
- Practice makes perfect! The more your practice, the more comfortable you will be, and the less test day anxiety you will have. This applies to all your classes. Specifically for CSE, tests are still done with pen and paper. This is especially important, because you won't have all the super awesome IDE functionalities or compiler to save you!
- Most importantly .. have confidence! Computer science and programming can all be very daunting. There will be many times where you will fail, and this is normal! For many of you, this may be your first exposure to computer science, and the content might at times seem very difficult, but don't give up! Rome wasn't built in a day!
