CSE 142 Computer Programming I -- Autumn 2004

Course Description: Basic programming-in-the-small abilities and concepts. Highlights include procedural and functional abstraction with simple built-in data type manipulation. Basic abilities of writing, executing, and debugging programs.

Information on Final Grades & Exams:

Many people have asked about the details of the grading process, so I have put together a copy of my grading spreadsheet. By looking at this, you can see exactly how each student's overall score was computed and how these overall scores were turned into actual grades. I have listed people using the last 4 digits of their student id to protect students' privacy. You can find the scores at the following url:

You can pick up your final exam from the CSE receptionist starting Thursday, January 6th. The receptionist is on the first floor of the Paul G Allen Center (http://www.cs.washington.edu/building/) across from the Reboot Cafe.

Several students have expressed an interest in going over their final exam in great detail. We simply don't have the resources to do this. Of course, if you find that you gave an answer that you think is correct that we have marked as incorrect, you can bring that to me and I'll correct any such error in grading. But if you have an incorrect answer that you think should have gotten more partial credit than it did, we aren't, in general, going to be willing to go over in detail with you why you got the partial credit that you did. We just don't have the time to explain all of the details of the grading process to every student.

Of course, any student who feels that their exam has been graded unfairly can discuss the issue with me. My office hours for spring will be Tuesdays 11-1 and Wednesdays 1-3.
