Objectives

This assignment is intended to help you become familiar with the course web site and all of the help and resources that are available for the course, and will not be weighted heavily in the final grade. It does count, however, and you will be expected to be comfortable with all of the items mentioned for future assignments.

Turn in the homework

Print this homework page and fill it out. Submit your homework at the beginning of class on Friday, January 6th.

This assignment has two sections with a total of 20 points and is worth 2% of your final grade.

Questions - 20 points total

If you have trouble with this section, review the material in lab 1 (http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/courses/100/06wi/labs/lab01.html).

2.  What is the URL (web address) of your UW student home page? (1 point)

3.  When you log on to the MyUW site, you supply your UWNetID and password, and you are then taken to a screen titled "MyUW Main Page". (2 points)

4.  The Computing and Communications group at the UW provides quite a few tools for use with your UWNetID accounts. How much disk space you have been allocated and how much disk space are you currently using? (4 points)

All important information for this course can be found on the course home page. Always check there first if you have a question about the course.

5.  What is the URL (web address) for the course web site? (1 point)

6.  On most of the web site pages, there are links to the other pages in the site in a column down the left-hand side of the page. This is called the site navigation area. The navigation area includes a link to the class bulletin board ("Class Bulletin Bd"). There is a message on the board titled "Homework 1 Solvers!". What is the answer to the question presented in that message? (5 points)

8.  Does the section that you are enrolled in meet on Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday? (1 point)

10.  The file schooling.pdf (http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/courses/100/06wi/hw/schooling.pdf) is in the Portable Document Format (or "pdf"). Your computer should be able to read that file. If the file doesn't open when you click on the link, then you probably need to install Adobe Acrobat Reader (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html) on your computer. Who is the person quoted in the text of schooling.pdf? (3 points)
