CSE 312: Foundations of Computing II, Summer 2020

Course Staff/Office Hours

In addition to the staff contact information, this page contains the most up-to-date listing of staff office hours. Office hours are subject to change, but we'll try to keep this page accurate at least a week into the future. There will be group office hours, during which TAs will answer questions to the entire group of students present, and individual office hours during which TAs will answer questions individually to students who will wait in a waiting room. Group and individual office hours are subject to change, but we will do our best to label them in the zoom calendar. Enter office hours through Zoom , and use the Office Hours Queue to pose questions.

  • Hi! I'm Alex, and I graduated from UW CSE 2 years ago. I completed my master's degree specializing in machine learning and theoretical computer science at Stanford just this previous quarter, and I'm very excited to come back and have the opportunity to teach CSE 312. After TA'ing this course countless times, I've taken the best from each iteration, and combined them into what I thought the best version of this course could be, and I hope you'll enjoy this new version and that it can persist. In my free time, I enjoy playing Smash, any racket sports (tennis, badminton, ping pong, etc.), watching Netflix, and I recently started cooking more. Feel free to come to my OH or schedule a time with to talk about anything above or anything else (probability, TAing, interning, grad school, etc.) - I'd love to meet everyone!

  • Why hello there! My name is Cooper and I'm a rising junior studying Computer Engineering and Math. A few of my favorite things to do (aside from computing probability mass functions, obviously), are watching movies, rock climbing, and dunking basketballs (yea, I'm kinda weird). I look forward tremendously to getting to know all of you throughout this quarter!

  • Pemi Nguyen (He/Him) (TA)
  • peming [at] cs.washington.edu
  • Section AC
  • Office Hours: Monday 3:30-4:30 PM PDT (Python), Tuesday 8:00-9:00 PM PDT (Group & Individual), Thursday 8:00-9:00 Pm PDT (Group & Individual), Saturday 8:00-9:00 PM PDT (Group & Individual)
  • Project Topics: Probabilistic Data Structures (PDS), Machine Learning (ML)

  • Hi my name is Pemi. Technically I'm a senior but I actually transferred to UW last fall from California, so I only have 2 years in the CSE department. I was a member of the CSE Student Advisory Council where I organized different cultural and academic events and have been working closely with the CSE department on COVID-19 responses and the recent F-1 ban. This upcoming year I will be working with Minorities in Tech, a new RSO dedicated to supporting CSE students from marginalized or underrepresented background. Student advocacy is something that is the cornerstone of my heart, so if you have any problems related to academics or student life, if I can't help you, I can reach out to those I know so that you can receive the best amount of support. I'm also interested in Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing. Besides TA-ing for 312, I'm doing research in Deep Learning with the UbiComp lab this summer, so feel free to ask me anything ML-related. Also, if you want to apply to be a TA, I'll give you lots of advice. I also love traveling (having been to 12+ countries but my plans this year were cancelled because of COVID-19), learning new languages and binge-watching comedy shows.

  • Hi everyone, I'm Luxi and I'm a rising senior. My field of interest is ML and DL. (Therefore the questions regarding ML branch of the project goes to me) I am CS and Math (BS) double major. I took real analysis track so you can email me if you are interested in that. Other than my cs/math part, I am a huge classical music fan and a violin player. So if you ever want to form a string quartet lmk.
