Assignment 6: Paper review or open source project review
You have a choice of two assignments for this week, either to review a
paper, or to review an open source project. This write up is
preliminary, a more detailed writeup should be available on May 8.
Option A. Response Paper
Prepare a short paper in response to the "My child will be respected"
paper by
Pal et al.
Answer two of the three following question:
- What are some of the themes the authors identify based on the results of this study?
- Why do you think the authors chose to conduct this study? What does this paper add to the conversation about computing in the developing world?
- Reflect on the key findings from this paper. If you were to embark on a computer aided learning project in a developing country, what would you need to take into account in order for the project to succeed.
This is an opportunity for you to think critically about the week's
readings and reflect on the themes of the course. This is not to
summarize what you read, but rather to prepare an intellectual
response to it.
Option B. OpenMRS
OpenMRS is an open source
Medical Record System targetting constrained healthcare environments.
For this option, you have two sub-options to choos from. Just select one.
- Compare OpenMRS and another specific open source project that you
are familiar with. How does it compare? What are its strengths? How
could it be improved?
- Deploy
OpenMRS. For those of you who are interested in a technical
challenge, you have the opportunity to deploy (or attempt to deploy)
OpenMRS. Knowing that the amount of time you spend on this will be
related to your technical background, try and limit it to 2-3
hours. Then write an experience report detailing the challenges and
success of attempting to deploy the system. Based on the experience,
what advice would you give to someone else who plans to use OpenMRS?
Please proofread to make sure your concepts are clear and free from typographical errors.
Due: May 14 at 6:30pm
Length: 2-3 pages
Assessment: You will be assessed on the thoughtfulness of your response, clarity of concepts, and completeness.
