Crypto Export/Import Controls
nThe export of cryptography is currently restricted by the U.S. BXA (Commerce Dept. Bureau of Export Administration)
nUntil January 2000, couldn’t export symmetric ciphers using keys > 56 bits in length.
nJan 2000: Clinton administration rewrote the regulations
n“ITAR” became “EAR”, and the regulations got a bit “looser” but they still exist
nYou can (generally speaking) export “strong crypto” without a specific product license
