Impressionized

Comments

The following describes how the major elements of this impressionized image were created. The 15 extra features used are indicated below. **Background.** A (1) bilateral Gaussian blur was applied to the original image before painting over it with partial-opacity brush strokes. The painting and rain strokes themselves consist of scattered lines or points with (2) adjusted radii and densities. In addition, (3) a mean blur brush was used for blending background and bokeh effects. **Brush Strokes.** Precise brush tuning was made possible via (4) an augmented overlay marker that changed size and shape with the selected brush, (5) multiple levels of undo and redo, and (6) changing the numbers in the attributes field by hand (i.e. connecting the spinbox to the slider). **Dancer.** The pencil sketch of the dancer is the result of (7) an inverted Sobel edge filter. Next, the original image was smoothed with (8) a Gaussian blur filter, sharpened with a (9) Laplacian sharpening filter, then run through (10) a filter using a regular edge detector to generate a second inverted edge image. This second image was then overlaid on the Sobel edge image using (11) an overlay image feature. The dancer was then painted back on top of the background using (12) a copy brush and the (13) mural image feature. **Depth Effects.** The depth lines were achieved with multiple passes. Image layers were iteratively loaded and redrawn using the mural image, (14) swap canvas, and copy brush features. A (15) spray paint brush was used for the "fireworks" around the dancer.
