This paper discusses experiments in exokernel system implementation.
Very good introduction with background references is followed by the
descriptions of XN - a file system, some of Xok - the exokernel itself
and ExOS - a library that provides UNIX abstractions for unmodified
applications.

I see the value of this paper mostly in the demonstration that
exokernel approach, where applications are given tremendous power is
sound and feasible, albeit complex. I am curious if there are any
commercial operating systems that employ this strategy.
