Fingerprinting schemes

• Cryptographically secure:

  • MD2, MD4, MD5, SHS, etc
  • relatively slow

• Rabin’s scheme

  • Based on polynomial arithmetic
  • Very fast (1 table lookup + 1 xor + 1 shift) /byte
  • Nice extra-properties
