CSE P 501 Project Writeup & Meeting

Project Code

Because of the compressed schedule during summer session, we will be flexible accepting the final version of your project as late as possible if you need the time. Please plan on submitting a current version of your project soon enough to leave time to produce a writeup before your meeting. If you want to fix up a "last" bug after the meeting, please advise Andy and Hal at that time about what seems to be broken and what you think needs to be done to fix it. In any case, we'll need to cut off submissions by Sunday evening in order to be able to prepare course grades and submit them on time.

Be sure to include the complete sources to your compiler, as well as test programs and the assembly code generated by your compiler

Writeup

Please write a brief (1 or 2 pages is probably enough) summary of your project describing

• What language features work (arithmetic expressions, if/while, object creation, dynamic dispatch).
• What language features don't work (or don't quite work).
• Summarize the test programs you've tried and the results. Please be sure to include anything interesting or unusual about all phases of the compiler, not just code generation.
• Any extra features or language extensions supported by your compiler (additional Java language constructs not part of MiniJava, extra error or semantics checking, source information or other goodies in the assembly language program, optimizations or analysis, etc.)
• How work was divided among project members. If you split up the work, who was responsible for what, or if you worked together on everything, a description of how that went. Please include information about all phases of the compiler from the scanner on.

Bring your writeup with you to your project meeting.

Meeting

Plan on meeting with the course staff by the end of the quarter for 20 min. to discuss your project. Times will be available on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20 and 21, as well as earlier in the week if that would be more convenient. We'll try to allocate times in class on Tuesday, 8/17.

Please bring a copy of your report with you. This isn't a formal presentation (i.e., don't waste time preparing a PowerPoint presentation or anything like that). If at all possible, everyone in your group should be at the meeting.
