Computer Accommodations and Reading Disabilities: An Overview of the Issues
by
Kate Deibel
Reading plays an amazingly critical role in our daily lives, particularly for students. A significant portion of the population, however, are affected by some form of a reading disability. Due to the growing availability of electronic documents, computer-based reading provides a powerful opportunity for accommodating this large population.
In this talk, I will give an overview of reading disabilities and the current state-of-the-art in accessible technology for this population. In addition, I will discuss future directions for this work, including some of my preliminary research in this area.
Discussion will follow the talk.
