WebInSight: Making web images accessible
by
Jeff Bigham and Ryan Kaminsky
A defining characteristic of the web is its multimedia environment,
but such content poses a number of problems for those using devices
incapable of displaying rich content, such as screen readers and
small-screen devices. In this talk, we will first discuss results
from a study we conducted to gauge the extent to which webpages are
following W3C standards for web accessibility. Next, we will present
a novel system called WebInSight that helps overcome the observed
problem by automatically assigning web images labels gathered through
the coordination of image captioning services and user labelling
requests.
Discussion will follow the talk.
