CSE 590D: Computer-Based Learning Environments
Focal topic for Winter 2008: Collaborative Design
This quarter we address the issue of supporting collaborative design.
Collaborative design, commonplace in industry, is increasingly
occuring in undergraduate education, particularly in engineering
and computing. This quarter, CSE 590D will examine methodologies
for collaborative design and software tools to support them.
Early in the quarter, we'll engage in the (collaborative) design
of a multimedia game using PRIME Designer, a tool being developed
at UW under a Science of Design NSF grant. Then, we'll examine
the relationships among design, problem solving, and problem
posing. We'll also discuss software features for supporting large
teams.
Depending upon the interests of participants, we may consider
domain-specific design issues (e.g., games, software systems,
problem-solving tools).
Our meetings are held on Wednesdays, from 2:30 to 3:20 PM
in CSE 303.
