Vision Project 2: Panorama

Panoramas

St.James Cathedral, Downtown Seattle. Kaidan Head.

CSE building, Open House. Handheld. (Note: I realize this is more than 360 degrees, I think it looks cool this way. The panorama embedded in the viewer is 360 degrees.)

UW Campus. Test Images.

Strengths and Weaknesses

I was able to stitch together panoramas with some success, including on my own photographs. I was somewhat limited by my bad feature descriptor for feature matching, which limited the effectiveness of some of the matches. The image sets that included salient features, little ambiguity, and minimal differences in illumination, etc., worked the best. Whenever the pictures were hard to match, RANSAC would sometimes fail, and I had to work much harder to tweak parameters to get meaningful data.

I also took some pictures of people moving around, but didn't do anything to remove the "ghosts". The same person appears in my handheld panorama a few different times (woman in black shirt).
