Tripod
Mosaic Panorama – Tree Grove at Golden Gardens Park
Handheld
Mosaic Panorama – Estuary at Golden Gardens Park
The test image was formed with minimal effort using the project 3 code. The tripod mosaic images worked best after converting the images to the size of the test images in order to maintain an accurate initial guess of 200. Finally, the handheld mosaic proved difficult to create. There was quite a bit more vertical drift and overlap between images was nowhere near constant. In the images used for these pictures, overlap ran the gamut from approximately 50 to 300 pixels, despite the photographer’s best effort to not make this variation the case. The mosaic program did not do well if the initial overlap guess was not in the same ballpark as the actual overlap. Thus, an external image-viewing program was needed to estimate the overlap before putting the images through the project program. Changes in brightness between images also caused the program to take longer to iterate to a correct solution, thus adding more iteration steps proved useful.
