Light for this scene is provided by a white point light source located off to the left of the image. This creates interesting shadow effects on the pylons. The sphere has high shininess and gloss values to give it the reflective qualities. Environment mapping is used to produce the reflected image on the sphere. The tray bottom was given a slightly higher shininess value but a lower glossiness. Texture mapping is used on the frame to give it a wood look. The top sphere utilizes texture and bump mapping. A depth of field effect is used to further focus attention on the center sphere by blurring out the foreground and background.
