Prerequisites: Graduate standing in biological, computer, mathematical, or statistical science, or permission of instructor.

Textbook: none

Grading: The course grade will be based on rotating notetaking, open-ended homework assignments, and a course project.

Notetaking: Students will serve as rotating official notetakers. This will free the remaining students from taking notes, and will give us each a uniform, complete set of notes at the end of the quarter.

Notes are to be written up in LaTeX (if possible, otherwise plain text), and sent to tompa@cs.washington.edu. Notes are due 11 a.m. the day following lecture, so that they may be distributed at the next lecture. The instructor will insert any citations for bibliography entries that don't already appear in the bibliography file, and any mathematical formulas for which the notetaker does not know the appropriate LaTeX formatting.

Course Web: All handouts and a log of all mail sent to the class mailing list will also be available on the course web at http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/courses/527/00wi/

Mailing List: The class mailing list is cse527@cs.washington.edu. Instructions for subscribing to the class mailing list can be found on the course web, and all participants should subscribe as soon as possible. We will use this list for announcements of general interest to the class. Students should also feel free to use it to ask questions, post information, or initiate discussions of general interest to the class. Questions or comments that are not of general interest should instead be directed to the instructor or TA at the addresses above.

Special Accommodations: If you would like to request academic accommodations due to a disability, please contact Disabled Student Services, 448 Schmitz, 543-8924 (V/TDD). If you already have a letter from Disabled Student Services indicating you have a disability that requires academic accommodations, please let the instructor know so we can discuss the appropriate accommodations.
