Submission Instructions
Prepare a deck of not more than 3 slides answering the questions above. We will share and discuss them in class. Include the consent form and contribution statement as a separate document for this submission
Preparation
- Review the paper or the video for “Anticipate and Adjust” depending on your preference
- Review the paper or the video for “Working at the Intersection of Race, Disability, and Technology”
- Review the AEIOU framework
Prepare for your client engagement meeting
Create one slide about study structure
- List 2-3 Activities you wish to learn about.
- What are they?
- Will you ask your clients to demonstrate them or talk about them?
- Describe your research activities. They should be selected to help you know more about your target user(s), their goals and needs, and the environment they are in. These activities can include semi-structured interviews, participant observation, fly on the wall observation, questionnaire, and more.
- Define study roles: List who in your group will lead the interview, take notes, ensure that accessibility needs are met, and handle scheduling and client contact.
- Identify stakeholders: List all stakeholders will be involved (clients, clients, group members, etc).
Create one slide about your plan to make your experiment inclusive
(Graded on Inclusive Experiments)
- Identify any ethical issues: Are there any risks of safety, privacy, or other concerns regarding these activities?
- How will the access needs of each person be met? Include communication, materials, space, and time in your answer to this question.
- Identify and address concerns regarding power dynamics, safety, ableism, racism, or anything else that might affect inclusive participation.
Informed consent
(Graded on Accessible Communication)
You must create a consent form using the UW simple informed consent template as a starting place and make sure it is accessible to your participants, and meets our accessible document standards in case any participant has a disability you don’t know about.
Create on slide showing your consent form.
Team Contribution & AI use Statement
We would like you to submit a contribution statement and AI use along with each group submission (for all graded team assignments!). Include this contribution statement as an additional part of your submission, along with the names of your group members. Please note that we will not grade submissions where this statement is missing.
Contribution statment
An example contribution statement is:
- Name 1: 40%, researched the background of the problem, outlined the content of the document, wrote the first version of one paragraph, also selected the images to be included
- Name 2: 15%, conducted 3 interviews and took notes
- Name 3: 20%, wrote the first version of the background section, made sure the final version got submitted
- Name 4: 25%, conducted 3 interviews (with Name 2) organized the group meeting, put together the first draft of the AEIOU sheet.
Please know that we do not expect everyone to contribute equally to each assignment, but you should try to work as a team and support each other. You should also discuss and agree among each other what each of you contributed and how much this contributed to the overall assignments. We know these percentages are subjective and messy, so don’t overthink them (we won’t).
AI use
- When writing the report, did you read and follow class guidelines on GAI use?
- Did you use AI in this assignment? If so, how?
