MeetUp

MeetUp is designed to help blind or low visioned people to meet each other easily.

Two blind people decide to meet at UW CSE building and their GPS device will tell them they are at UW CSE once they arrive.

Yet, one person can be at the front door and the other person can be at the back door.

Without any help, their meeting location has to be VERY SPECIFIC so that they can be at exact same spot within talking distance.

That is not only inconvenient but also very difficult even for nonblind people if they have never been that place before.

So we came up with dynamic routeing to solve this problem.

As two users who want to meet up with move, the application gets updated routes from the server.

Frequent updates are required because the destination is not fixed.

MeetUp for indoors - MeetUp is not yet designed for indoors due to lack of accuracy in location through network
Relative location - We came up with compass solution to give user feedback on direction based on where the phone is heading. However, compass was too inaccurate to give useful information.
Bus Routes - Google Maps API does not provide transit travel mode yet.
Group MeetUp - Pin point the closest location to the group members and use it as destination
Optimized Route Update - Currently MeetUp fetches route data every 10 seconds. Solution should detect when it necessarily needs an update.
