Project Proposal and Preliminary Work Plan
Each group should present a project proposal and preliminary work plan
in class on January 12. We'll allocate 10 minutes per group, including
discussion. (The instructor and TA will also follow up with more detailed
feedback to the groups as needed.)
Please prepare a presentation and send it to Alan by 9:00am the morning
of January 12. Powerpoint, pdf, or Keynote are all OK. Here is a
suggested format for the presentation. (You can vary from this format if
need be, but please include the information listed.)
- Overview (1 slide)
- Project title
- A tagline for the project (that is, a short, catchy phrase describing the project)
- Team members
- Project description (1 slide)
- What will the application do?
- Who are the intended users?
- Technology: What are the technical areas needed for the project
(e.g. machine learning, client/server architecture, ....)?
- Community input and participation (1 slide)
- Why do you believe this would be useful to your intended users?
- What are your plans so far for involving community members in
the design and/or testing? If your plans are incomplete, what are
additional steps you would like to take?
- Preliminary plan (1 slide)
- Anticipated team member roles
- Significant milestones, both during the quarter and by the end
of the quarter? (We expect this will change over the quarter, but
a plan now will help focus!)
- Major anticipated risks and obstacles
