CSE 481C Final Project Proposal

Proposal Presentations

(in class on Wednesday, Nov 9)

Each team will make a short powerpoint presentation to describe the team’s ideas for the final project. You may organize your presentation slides using the following section titles (see “Write-up” section below for details): Project Title and Team Members, Project Goals, Design Strategy, Design Unknowns/Risks, Plan & Schedule including your team’s Milestones 1 and 2, and Evaluation Strategy.

Include in your presentation any motivating information, e.g., if your project is inspired by a video on the web, show the video. If you were inspired by a paper in the class reading list, you may include images from the paper.

Bring a laptop to class on Nov 9 to make your team’s presentation. If you do not have a laptop, you may email Raj your ppt file on Nov 9 before noon to use the class laptop.

After class, the staff will provide feedback on your proposal ideas which you can incorporate into your final proposal write-up.

Proposal Write-Up

(due by 11:59pm Sunday, Nov 13)

The project proposal should provide a basic description of your project, why it is interesting, and how you plan to implement and test it. Below is an outline for the proposal to be used as a guideline.

Title of Project

Names of group members

Project Abstract

A one paragraph description of the project and how the problem it tackles is interesting and useful for robotics/AI.

Project Goals

List the goals of your project, starting with the highest level/most important goals. For each goal, include any sub-goals that will need to be addressed to achieve the goal.

Design Strategy

Provide a description of the overall design you envision for the project, the major components, and their purpose. Include an architectural diagram (showing how the components interact) if appropriate.

Design Unknowns/Risks

Describe the features of your design that your team is least familiar with and with which there is no prior experience. These are the issues you will need to tackle first!

Implementation Plan and Milestones

Outline a plan for implementing your project. Break the project into smaller pieces, with a short (e.g., one sentence) description of each piece, any inter-dependency with other pieces, along with how each piece will be tested and integrated. Try to come up with a rough timeline for your work and a rough division of labor between team members.

Include two milestones in your timeline that you will try to achieve: Milestone 1 (in class demo on Nov 16) and Milestone 2 (in class demo on Nov 23).

Evaluation

Explain how you will evaluate success – what will you measure and how will you display it in the final report?

Related Work

Search for related research papers, articles, videos, project URLs that are relevant to your proposed project. Write one or two sentences summarizing the similarity and/or difference with what you are proposing.
