Pin inductance and I/O speed

• Inductance of a PGA or QFP pin is several nH

  • 10× that of a BGA or CFP

• Rule of thumb:

  • tr_min is minimum signal rise time
  • L is pin inductance
  • Z0 is trace impedance
    • Example: If L = 5nH and Z0 = 50 Ohms, tr_min = 500psec
