Variables:

Low-pass filter frequency upper bound

High-pass filter frequency lower bound

Bit precision of the filter coefficients

Number of taps

Initial assumptions:

Samples are 20 bits

Low-pass filter frequency upper bound is 3 KHz

1. Band width

(3 dB frequency – 15 dB frequency) for the low-pass filter

(15 dB frequency – 3 dB frequency) for the high-pass filter

Small variations between tap-coefficient bit widths of 8+

Large variations between tap-coefficient bit widths of 5-

Assumption:

Good bit width sizes would be 6, 7, or 8

2. Total band width between the 3 dB points of the low-pass filter and the high-pass filter

Linear trend: as Tap number increases the unavailable band width decreases

Error bars indicate the frequency difference between 15 dB points of the high-pass and low-pass filters
