Assembling the Box
Introduction
This page gives instructions for assembling the box for the CSE 466 soccer controller. Please follow the steps on this page carefully to avoid damaging the boxes or the boards.
Assembly
STEP 1 |
- Start with the empty box.
STEP 2 |
- Connect the grounding wire from the box to the ground pin on the AirStick board. (If your AirStick board does not have a grounding pin, give it to a TA for modification.)
- Set the AirStick board into the box, gently flexing the sides of the box outward so the board clears the catches.
STEP 3 |
- Slide the board as far as it will go towards the angled end of the box.
- Connect the antenna board (to either side) to hold the board in this position.
STEP 4 |
- Connect the basic sensor board (BSB) to the connector on the top side of the AirStick.
STEP 5 |
- Connect the iMote2 on top of the Basic Sensor Board (BSB).
STEP 6 |
- Place a battery with extended wires on top of the AirStick board in the space between the BSB/iMote2 stack and the antenna connectors. One side of the battery will rest on the AirStick's JTAG connector.
- Slide the battery as close as it can be to the antenna connectors without being on top of them.
- Route the wires behind the iMote2/BSB board stack, towards the wire channel in the side of the box.
STEP 7 |
- Route the battery wires up through the channel on the side of the box.
STEP 8 |
- Angle the SuperBird into the box so the jog dial goes through the slot on the side of the box.
- Make sure that the edge of the SuperBird board is resting on the supports for it and is under both of the catches on the side of the box with the jog dial.
STEP 9 |
- Gently press down on the other side of the board. It should easily mate with the connectors on the iMote2 and lock beneath the catches on the side of the box.
- If this side of the SuperBird does not easily go down, remove the SuperBird and check the alignment of the other components. DO NOT FORCE THE SUPERBIRD OR ANY OTHER BOARD!
STEP 10 |
- Check to make sure that the SuperBird board is firmly secured below each of the four catches on the sides of the box, and that the sides of the box are not significantly bowed outward.
STEP 11 |
- Connect the battery cable to the left battery connector.
You now have a fully assembled box. You may need to use a small screwdriver (or similar blunt object) to push the power button through the provided opening.
Note that the USB ethernet port on the iMote2 is not accessible while the assembly is in the box. You will need to make sure that your code is capable of starting itself when you turn on the iMote2, since you will not be able to use a computer to start it!
Disassembly
To disassemble the box:
- Disconnect the battery cable from the SuperBird.
- While flexing the left side of the box outward, gently pull up on the speaker on the SuperBird to release the left side of the board from the catches on the box and the connectors on the iMote2.
- Lift the SuperBird out of the box. You can now remove the battery and the rest of the boards.
- Remember to disconnect the grounding wire from the AirStick so you do not rip it from the bottom of the box!
