Shot 1:
-Camera on floor indicator
above interior elevator door. “Ding!” The elevator bell chimes. Indicator
points to first floor.
Shot 2:
-Camera cut to Mr. P,
waist up. Mr. P faces the elevator doors. Mr. P straightens his coat in
preparation for work.
-Mr. P reaches to open the
elevator door.
Shot 3:
-Cut to reverse camera
shot toward elevator doors from behind Mr. P. Mr. P opens the gate and doors.
-Fuzzy silhouettes of two
figures appear just outside the elevator.
Shot 4:
-Cut to wide shot of
elevator interior from upper rear corner. Couple enters the elevator.
-Mr. P begins to close the
gate.
-Before the door
completely closes, a young girl with a sketchbook rushes up to enter the
elevator.
-Mr. P opens the gate for
her and she scurries in.
Shot 5:
-Cut to shot focusing on
couple against back elevator wall. Mr. P closes the elevator gate off camera.
The couple’s gestures indicate a disagreement about where they want Mr. P to
take them.
Shot 6:
-Cut to shot of Mr. P from
waist up against the front corner of elevator, near the button panel. Mr. P
gestures as if to ask the couple “where to?”
Shot 7:
-Cut to previous shot of
couple. The couple gestures as if to reply “we don’t know.”
Shot 8:
-Cut to close up of Mr.
P’s face. He pauses to think for a moment. A look of concentration appears on
his face, and then a look of enlightenment.
Shot 9:
-Cut to medium shot of Mr.
P standing near the couple. He extends his hand and rests it on the husbands
shoulder. He warmly says, “I know just the place.”
Shot 10:
-Cut to wide shot of
elevator interior from upper rear corner. Mr. P turns and faces the button
panel. He begins punching the buttons in a mad flurry, rapidly pecking with his
index fingers.
Shot 11:
-Cut to POV of Mr. P as he
looks at button panel. He continues to punch buttons. He stops. “Ding!” The
elevator bell chimes. The elevator stops.
Shot 12:
-Cut to shot just outside
the elevator towards the closed doors. The doors begin to open.
-When the doors completely
open, we see the couple facing the camera with joyful expressions on their
faces in response to the environment that has been revealed to them.
Shot 13:
-Cut to shot from slightly
outside the elevator at foot level, focusing on the threshold of the door. The
couple’s feet walk into the frame as they exit the elevator.
-Camera pans upward as the
couple continues to walk. Mr. P is standing just inside the elevator doors.
-Camera finishes pan and
focuses on Mr. P. Mr. P waves to the couple.
Shot 14:
-Cut to shot of elevator
doors from behind Mr. P. (Camera = Shot 3) View of Dancing World as couple
moves into the scene. Mr. P stands near button panel, staring out into the
environment he has created.
-Mr. P closes the gate and
doors.
Shot 15:
-Cut to shot of Mr. P from
waist up against the front corner of elevator, near the button panel. Mr. P has
just turned from closing the gate, and now tilts his head downward to face the
young girl.
Shot 16:
-Cut to reverse shot
toward young girl (POV of Mr. P). Girl is holding out a piece of paper from her
sketchbook to Mr. P.
Shot 17:
-Cut to medium shot from
front of elevator, showing girl and Mr. P. Mr. P glances at the picture.
-Mr. P tucks the picture
under his left arm.

into the scene. Mr. P stands near button panel, staring out into the

-Mr. P closes the gate and
doors.
Shot 25:
-Camera cut to Mr. P,
waist up. Mr. P faces the elevator doors. (Camera = Shot 2). The elevator is
moving down. Mr. P is looking at the drawing the girl gave him.
Shot 26:
-Cut to shot over the
shoulder of Mr. P, revealing the drawing of the girl to the viewer for the
first time. “Ding!”
Shot 27:
-Cut to Mr. P, waist up.
He looks up to the floor indicator, still holding the girl’s drawing.
Shot 28:
-Cut to shot of floor
indicator above interior elevator door. Indicator points to first floor. (Same
as shot 1).
Shot 29:
-Cut to Mr. P, waist up.
He tucks the drawing into his jacket pocket.
-Mr. P reaches to open the
elevator door. (Same as shot 2b).
Shot 30:
-Cut to reverse camera
shot toward elevator doors from behind Mr. P. Mr. P opens the gate and doors.
-Female elevator operator
appears just outside the elevator.
Shot 31:
-Cut to reverse camera
shot toward Mr. P. Mr. P has a clear expression of surprise on his face.
-Dolly camera back as the
female elevator operator enters the elevator. Mr. P and the female elevator
operator face each other and she hands him a pink slip.
-Mr. P takes the slip and
stares down at it. He sighs in disappointment and slouches.
-Mr. P removes his cap and
relinquishes it to the female elevator operator.
Shot 32:
-Cut to shot from rear of
elevator interior. Mr. P has stepped out of the elevator into the lobby and we
see him through the elevator doors.
-The female elevator
operator reaches for the gate.
-The female elevator
operator closes the gate and doors as Mr. P walks away.
Shot 33:
-Cut to close up of the
back of the female elevator operator and her hand as she presses a single
button on the control panel.
-The elevator moves up and
the camera remains stationary.
-Blackness wipes across
the screen from the bottom as the floor of the elevator moves upward past the
camera.
Shot 34:
-From black, open with
close up shot of a crumpled piece of paper lying on grass in the park.
-A trash pickup pin
quickly pierces the paper from above.
-Camera pans up along the
trash pickup pin to reveal a park maintenance man standing in front of a park
bench where Mr. P is sitting. The man appears depressed and bored.
-The maintenance man sits
down on the bench next to Mr. P and leans forward with his forearms against his
knees. His head is down as he stares at the ground. He holds the trash pickup
pin in the air in front of him.
-The maintenance man and
Mr. P turn towards each other simultaneously and acknowledge one another with a
nod of the head.
-The two men turn back to
their original poses. A smile appears on Mr. P’s face. He realizes he can help
this man.
Shot 35:
-Cut to close up of Mr.
P’s face. He pauses to think for a moment. A look of concentration appears on
his face, and then a look of enlightenment.
Shot 36:
-Cut to medium front shot
of men on bench (Camera = shot 34). Mr. P reaches over toward the maintenance
man’s shoulder.
Shot 37:
-Cut to close up of
maintenance man’s face and shoulder. The man’s face is sad. We see Mr. P’s hand
finish his gesture by resting his hand on the man’s shoulder.
-Camera pans down along
the man’s seated body.
-Camera finishes pan
pointing to the ground in front of the maintenance man’s feet. A few scraps of
trash litter the ground, where there is a small puddle.
-Trash on the ground
morphs into water. The garbage transforms into abstract, colorful shapes below
the surface of the water.
Shot 38:
-Camera pans upward from
water. The base of a boat floating in the water comes into view, and we realize
the park is no longer there—only a lake.
-Camera continues to pan
up to reveal more of the boat, and the bottom half of the maintenance man as he
sits in the boat. He is sitting in the same position as on the park bench,
fishing pole in hand, leaning forward, and looking down into the water.
-Camera focuses on the
man’s face as he looks up from the water. We see his expression has changed to
one of delight.
