Shot 8 notes from class on Thu., 4/27
- Need to finish sets by this weekend in order to block out shots and do lighting and animation. Look for materials on pluto in the CSE490FinalProj folder.
- Animation will start by next week
- Leafs: Need shaded, detailed leaf models. Mike threw in transparent texture maps in the 490 final project folder that can be used.
- Shading: Almost done for shot 8. Waiting on models.
- Trees' waving effects
- Looks like underwater or in heat wave
- high-fractal version shows leaves in trees better
- Use water wave through it?
Shot 8 notes from class on Tue., 4/25
Important: Come see a show of pacific northwest natural objects and native art on Thursday, 5/4 2:30-4:30 in the basement of Allen library south.
Shot 8 was shown in class at production quality. Here are comments people made:
Leaves
- Line of leaves needs help: make it more clear and obvious
- Have some leaves fly closer to camera to show details and clarify that they are leaves
- Textures on foreground leaves.
- Hand-animate leaves in foreground.
- Have leaves falling in foreground? Can move camera down to capture leaves falling from trees. Adjust existing scripts.
- Leaves should cast shadows. Check paint effects.
Girl's turning and looking--is she turning towards the camera?
Aliasing on paint effects. Shadows on paint effects are awkward.
Flowers
- Flower color too bright
- Compositionally flowers in foreground anchoring corners
Trees:
- try soft bodies on trees, with nme contraint issues
- animate foreground trees, not background trees
- texture animation looks like it loops
- move textures through trees rather than on trees
- birch so different from evergreens that scale cues don't work
- supposed to be young forest with smaller trees. Also, this shot is not deep in the forest.
Shading:
- Ground shader is aliasing/shiny
- Darken ground shader?--issue of contrast and value on leaves
Blur map, smoother transition
Can we do just on plane?
Procedural map--do post-blur
Painterly effects are supposed to work with transparency
Add more ground cover and undergrowth. Render out a blank scene, make it into a flat plane with an alpha map. Get better control.
Wind:
- Wind not showing up in the grasses.
- Can apply wind with brush strokes
Some intersection problems. Issues with clothes suggests taking body away.
Girl is 1 inch = 1 unit. Let's stick with that measurement.
Soft bodies
- Soft bodies demonstrated, painting in wind.
- Make displacement maps real smooth and large.
- Use multiple maps--One map in color gain and one in different channels
Rotoscoping
- Put video stills into enviornment and mapping, with taproot as frames.
- Motion capture available
- Roto is ok w/o right camera angle just for timing and position.
- Tree motion is upward
- MEL script
- leaves closer to camera, more leaves, direction on leaves
