Class notes from Thursday, 5/11
Soundtrack:
- Use texture & range as well as tempo to convey mood. Start with sparse texture. Deepen texture at the end. Use other instruments to help mood
- Meoldy: One for family at beginning, with girl adding her own at the end. Each character can add their own music.
- Use breath or wind to help convey mood. Stylize wind?
Animators' tips:
- Move upper body when turning or moving neck. Move upper body when lower body moves as well. Otherwise they move like robots are are unrealistic.
- If not all actions can fit within a shot's timing, first overlap actions to fit them in. As a last resort, length the shot a few frames.
- Each time you use render farm, render your shot to a different name to avoid gliches.
- Watch intersections between objects so they don't clash.
- Textures don't need to be animated now. Open up hyper-shader, you'll see a curve. Delete the curve.
- Anticipate character upper-body movements more with lower-body movements.
Shots
- Shot 1: Daughter should stay focused. Mother can glance at daughter right before getting to the ritual
- Shot 2
- Girl's looking around is good
- After girl sits down, instead of dropping her arms, hold clay closer.
- Elbows should not be symmetrical.
- When walking in, girl's eyes may be cut off. Tilt camera up more.
- Move upper body when turning or moving neck. Move upper body when lower body moves as well. Otherwise they move like robots are are unrealistic.
- Blink with girl's head movement.
- Shot 3
- Make girl keep breathing, moving slightly, and braids flow at end of shot. This reminds us she's still alive.
- Add another elder at the right side of the screen to complete circle.
- Girl's head should start turning at end of this shot, and complete at the beginning of next.
- Relax grandpa's feet?
- Far elder should turn away from looking at foreground elder sooner.
- Far elder can move more forward when putting clay into cubby.
- Shift shot so we can see others make clay?
- Shot 4
- Nice facial expression
- Grandma's movements are a little fast
- Add 2 secs at end of shot to allow girl look at amulet
- Girl should turn slightly forward to finish turning from last shot (see last shot), but not too much.
- Breath should match shoulder movement.
- Shot 5
- Hold and look at amulet in the center of screen for a bit, then drop naturally as she brings up clay.
- Squeezing looks contrived. Squeeze once, but release it only a little bit. Use the "one-and-half" squeeze.
- Shot 8
- Get bird reflections into shot?
- Textures don't need to be animated now. Open up hyper-shader, you'll see a curve. Delete the curve.
- Shot 9
- Create a strong gust of wind as girl moves her head, to get her braid over her shoulder?
- Girl could grab her braid at end and throw it instead of sweeping it.
- Girl moving her braid should happen sooner in shot.
- Squint eyes a little more. More nose and facial movement.
- A few more frames showing hair moving back.
- More anticipation of movement with lower body. (Move her whole body back first, then move forward)
- Shot 11/12- Make arm movements on a spline?
