Notes from animation meeting on 5/9/2000

Finaling of shots in class this Thursday: For class Tuesday: How should we get the "clay" to appear to be sculpted? We should get some consistent idea and look--we'll bring this up tommorow wth Darrek. Have some ideas ready if you can.

Shots:

Shot 1

Final altar needs to be imported

Straighten out title sequence after animation is finished.

Add tree animation (Wyvern) for title.

Camera should continue moving until the end of the shot--by the time the camera cuts to shot 2, the grandmother and girl should be closer to the center of the screen and the motion of the camera slows.

Please try to update the camera Andrew.

Add paint effects on grass and get "wheatfield" effect.

Get proper Elder and Girl models and place them appropriately.

Shot 2

Final alter needs to be imported.

Extend by 3 seconds. Please extend the timing Andrew simply by adding frames. The girl and grandma should be slowed down to match the movements of shot 1. The girls' head movement should be very slight with most of the acting coming from her eye movements (anxious and upset)... Get proper elder and girl models and place them appropriately.

Shot 3

Final altar needs to be imported.

Shot should be lenghtened by 4 seconds. Motion curves should be shifted as appropriate. Get location of newest models and place them appropriately.

Act this out Varun and match your movements with hers. David did a good job with this this morning. Let's take another look at the camera but don't let this affect your animation yet.

Girl first leans over but shouldn't stop then... she looks too static -- have her breathe or shoft back slightly. Elders need to rest on their heels in order to keep the elder's head from getting clipped off the top of the screen. Also, we need to have the elder farthest away from camera shape the ritual object a bit before placing the object into the "cuby". Please make sure that the same elder moves his body forward as he places the object into the cubby.

Shot 4

Final altar needs to be imported.

Import the newest girl model from Jason--add 2 seconds in the beginning and two and the end (more if you feel it needs it)

Import and place elder models into position. Elders should be working theclay -- make the hands move appropriately and tommorow in class we'll ask about the best way to get the look we want for this. People in focus should be sharper, people out of focus should be "blurrier"...

Shot 5

Final altar needs to be imported.

Use new closeup hands ( Get from Peter)

Clay should be more prominant in shot. Hand with amulet should move further out of the way to screen right. Import newer amulet.

Get new clay idea from class tommorow...

Shot 8

Wyvern, Chad and Josh -- coordinate on trees, girl movements, leaves, , bird reflection, etc.

Girl should take fewer and less mechanical steps, both on the way in and out of shot.... girl comes into shot slower -- to fit the pace of the shot.

Add reflection in the beginning of shot.

Add leaves in the correct line location... Subtle but "readable" leaf interaction. Get rotations going for individual leaves and scale differentiation ( all smaller) and variety of shapes and colors.

Relate the leaves to the bird reflection. Use on ly ONE bird reflection here....

Shot 9

Use new girl model, make sure braids don't intersect, face shapes are needed (check with Peter).....

Shot 10

Try to clock ou the timing so that we can look at it Thursday.... start Girl nearer the fern in the screen....

Shot 11/12

Stones need to be added so that she can "hop" from stone to stone.

Have the girl crawl under the tree, she looks a bit like she is trying to move the log -- change the pose to read better.

Mark will slow the pan of the camera down between the hops and the climb. During the camera pan the girl should be closer to the camera and fill up more of the screen.

Mark will also stop the camera at the end of the shot to allow for a more graceful transition to the next shot. He'll be lenghtening the shot.... During the pan , the girl should be farther toward the left hand side of the screen, closer to where she is after the third "hop" now.

Shot 13

Girl should look straight ahead (no head movement in either direction)

Shot 14

needs at least three more seconds -- it's too short.

Shot 17

should be twice as long... David -- "make it work"

Shot 21

needs to be lenghtened by 4 seconds... Varun --- act this out... give yourself time to carefully and thoughtfully pick up flower , place it , pick up a few more flowers, and start to stand up.... work with David Hunt on getting the stand to read from your shot to his.

Shot 35

Import models for elders and Girl...

Let's talk about the acting on this shot together.
