Dynamic Curves:
Create a new file
Create a curve:
- Any way you like will work
- A curve that has more points will be preferable
- You will want some curviness to your curve
Make the curve dynamic:
- Select the curve
- Dynamics Menu Set > Hair > Make Selected Curve Dynamic
- You will now have two curves; one that's dynamic and one that's static. Playing through your animation will quickly show the difference between the two.
Make the curve a solid:
- Place a cylinder at the shared base of the two curves
li>
- Select the faces of one of the ends
- Polygon Menu Set > Edit Mesh > Extrude Faces Options. The number of divisions depends on how smooth you want the strand. Forty-two is a good number.
- Make sure "use selected curve for extrusion" is checked.
- Extrude
Tweak Settings:
- You may find that your "thread" is a little rubbery. You should tweak the settings of the "thread" by changing the attributes of the hair system that was generated.
- Experiment with stiffness
- Experiment with length-flex
Wash, Rinse, Repeat:
- Make a second string in the same file, using the above method.
- When you get to the section titled "Wash, Rinse, Repeat", do not recurse! This would be an infinite loop.
- Change something noticeable in the new curve's settings. (i.e. put different forces on it in the Hair System Shape attributes)
- Change the follicle shape to allow one end to hang free. Do this by changing the follicle shape's "point lock" attribute to either base or tip.
