Task Explanations

Most of the production tasks should be self-explanatory. Those that may not be are explained a bit below.

story Revision of storyboard scenes, shots, timing.
art design Development of look and feel for animation; on-going consultation with lighting, shading, modeling groups to ensure coherence.
animatic Taking storyboard scenes and putting them together on video with proper timing.
layout + standins Developing character and camera placement and basic movements (cimematography). Includes modeling standins for set pieces and props to be used in blocking out scenes.
second unit motion The cavalry comes in to finish motion.
rendering/compositing Using RenderMan to render scenes, Composer to combine foreground and backgrounds.
post-production Editing, sound-synch, titles, credits, everything necessary to take piece from a pile of rendered frames into a finished animation.
technical direction Making sure that everything is moving smoothly in the production pipeline. This task is on-going, but not full-time. Whoever ends up with this job should read email frequently and be around the lab a lot, but is free to take on other tasks as well.
