This scene demonstrates the effect behind one-way mirrors. The "mirror" is a piece of partially reflective glass. The camera in the brightly lit room(top image) sees a normal reflection. In the darkened room(bottom image), however, reflection is minimal and the observer(represented by a figurine of Buddha) is able to see through the glass without being visible from the other side.
