This version of Impressionist has the Normalize, Undo, Swap Image/Canvas, and Mural extra credit features, and all of them were used heavily in this image.To get the dark background effect, I applied an embossing filter was applied to the red panda image, then I used the buffer swap tool, and I painted the background around the red panda using various circular brushes. Then, I used the mural tool to reload the original image, and "feathered" the edges with a low-opacity circular brush. I then swapped back and forth between the original and filtered images, applying different brushes to the edges each time, to create a lot of random noise. Finally, I used a large, low-opacity circle brush of the original image over the red panda itself, to "blur" only that part of the image.
