This scene uses a directional light that shines toward the center of the image from the upper left.  The large purple sphere blocks the light, creating a shadow that the center transparent sphere sits in.  A candle-like object is behind this transparent sphere, and the light from the candle is refracted through it.  Finally, a mirror object is angled such that you get a better idea of the perspectives of the objects.
