The floor of the scene is a reflective square, with a bump map to give it a ripple pattern. The body of the lava lamp is made with two sets of cones, one just slightly inside the other. This simulates the water inside a thin glass enclosure. The blobs inside the lava lamp are made with metaballs. One set is texture mapped, and the other is made by blending the materials given to each metaball, based on the relatave field strengths at various points on the blob's surface. The back wall is a combination of a bump map and a a texture map. The texture map provides the blue diamonds, while the bump map provides the grooves between the tiles.
